We’re launching a new feature where we share parenting tips, advice, and words of wisdom! This is something that I only learned this weekend:
You can combine milk from different pumping sessions, but avoid adding warm, freshly expressed milk to cold milk. Raising the temperature of previously chilled milk quickly can encourage bacterial growth. If one batch of milk has been refrigerated, be sure to chill the warm batch before combining the two.
I’d been pumping throughout the day and adding warm milk to the chilled milk I already had in the refrigerator. Seeing as how I had mold growing in my pump parts recently, I’ve definitely changed my ways when it comes to breastmilk storage!
Do you have any tips, tricks or parenting words of wisdom to share with us? Please email us at submissions@hellobee.com!

My lactation consultant gave me this tip. use a glass jar/bottle in the fridge for storage. The breast milk doesn’t stick to the sides like it does for the plastic bottles.
And having Kellymom.com bookmarked is awesome.

We never followed this tip for refrigerated milk. It probably took a few hours off the shelf life but that was OK for us.

Yes, a nurse at my hospital told me the same thing. She said to combine like with like. So warm with warm or cold with cold!

I have been wondering about this! I typically try to add “like to like” as well, but wondering if it was really necessary. Thanks for confirming!
