LeLe turned 3 last week, and I had been wracking my brain to figure out what to do for it. She wanted to invite friends from school but I didn’t feel comfortable having kids in our house because of the size (small) and the dogs. I would have preferred to find some place local that we can have a party, but I was also unsure if a party for a 3-year-old is necessary. So, I decided to do a two-fold celebration, the best of both worlds, so to speak. We had a family party at our house, and LeLe’s preschool had a small celebration the day after her birthday in class so she could celebrate with her friends. This was a great option for me and I love that our preschool does this.

Her birthday fell on a Sunday this year, which was awesome because that meant that our family was all able to come to our house. Last year I had a small party and she loved it, and I think this year was equally successful. I did some Pinterest research and decided on a pink and gold theme. She is into so many things that I didn’t think I could narrow it down to just one thing, so I tried to find something that she would really love.

LeLe is obsessed with glitter, and I happen to love it too, so I found a super cool tutorial to make these clear and gold glitter balloons and instead of anchoring them with a weight, we hung them from the wood beams in our living room upside down. For the hanging dots, I went to Michaels and got a bunch of different paper, cut out the little circles, and hung them down the window like the photo above, and made some cute tulle tassels to go with it. I had a fluffy white piece of fabric I have been using for backdrops for photos of the kids, so I spread this out over our table and filled a few mason jars with glitter and pink roses. I also took some of the extra dots I cut out and laid them out on the table too.

I asked LeLe to sit with me and look at some birthday cakes, and she picked out the one above as well as this one. Because she loved both of them so much, I decided to combine the two and make a multi-layered and colored cake, covered in pink frosting and sprinkles, and with different colored mini donuts around the edge. It was ambitious and it mostly turned out the way I wanted. As far as the rest of the food, I did a few other sweets: some pink chocolate dipped pretzels with sprinkles and a really pretty pink punch. I also did some more savory items, but they didn’t really fit into the pink and gold theme.

I love the idea of a cute fabric tutu and I’ve made LeLe tulle tutus in the past, so this was a bit different, but a fun challenge. I also found a super cute pink shirt that had a 3 and a little bow on it, so that was the easiest part. I threw together the tutu a couple of nights before her birthday and she already owned the striped leggings with gold stars, so I was set!

She refused to wear the tutu!

Overall, I think the party was a success. LeLe had a blast, people seemed to have fun, and the best part was that I really enjoyed putting it all together. I am a former event coordinator and planner, so doing the kids’ birthday parties has become a new fun outlet for me. I can’t wait until next year!
