Let me just start by saying that when you have a baby, time flies by seriously quickly. After having a second, I feel like time is exponentially faster. Here is my very quick, very late update.

Our baby girl is, as Donald Trump would say, “YOOOOOUGE.” She is growing crazy fast. At 2 months, she’s already outgrown most of her 3 month clothing and is moving on to 6 month sizes. And not only is she big, but she is also very strong. In fact, one of her favorite things to do while she’s awake is tummy time, especially propped up by the Boppy. She loves to raise her head and look around. Most times we place her in this position, she immediately starts laughing. This month she’s starting to give us wide smiles, especially right after she wakes up. She’s starting to coo and really lock eyes with us, so we’re finally entering that time when the baby is no longer just a dark, brooding being constantly demanding food and to be held.

Lil Miss Wagon is a much fussier baby than Wagon Jr. was, but I’ve got to say her stretches of sleep are pretty impressive. Her morning nap is usually right around 3 hours long, followed by two solid naps of 1-2 hours long, and depending on the timing of the day, she’ll sometimes have a short evening nap of about an hour. We try to put her to bed around 6pm, and that’s come with varied results. Some nights she’ll go down by 7pm and stay down, but most nights she wakes up after 30 mins and we have to soothe her back to sleep. Some nights her first stretch of sleep can be as long as 7 hours, and some nights she wakes up after 3 hours. Lately it’s been pretty consistently 3, 3-4 hour stretches of sleep every night.

Something that has to be weaved into the schedule is my pumping. When I’m at work I try to pump 3 times a day, now that I’m trying to build my supply back up after having mastitis. I was barely pumping as much as she needed the first week after mastitis, but I’m finally back at a good rate, especially since I can pump a couple of times a night during her long stretches of sleep. Lil Miss Wagon hates laying on the left side of her head, so nursing can be a challenge since she is nonstop fussing. She ends up getting sprayed with milk multiple times a feeding because she pulls off her latch to fuss. She’s also always using her STRONG neck to pull away from me.

She absolutely hates baths and screams bloody murder every time we bathe her or even wipe her face with a wet washcloth. She also hates clothing changes. We all dread nighttime since that’s her fussy time and we know she’s going to almost pass out from screaming so much during the bath. But because of her baby acne and the amount of hair she has, she really needs to be bathed daily. I guess everyone in our house takes super quick baths and showers. No long, luxurious soaks here.

Wagon Jr.

It’s much of the same with our little man. Mealtimes are always a challenge because he’d rather be playing and goofing off. Potty training was a relative success (no more diapers at all!), but he has accidents here and there because he’s too busy playing and goofing off. We have to convince him to visit the potty, and once he’s there he pees like a firehose. We’ve taught him how to aim his wee-wee downward so that his clothes don’t get soaked. His accidents can be so disappointing, but he still stays dry throughout his naps and all night long (more than 12 hours sometimes!) so I can’t complain too much.

He’s still got his tantrum and whiny moments, but time outs have still been working fantastically with him. On a good day, the threat of a time out is enough to get him to behave. But he usually still gets about one or two on bad days. He is quite the chatterbox and goofball… he’s definitely his Daddy’s son. He’s still in love with music and his instruments, and he loves finding and collecting rocks and sticks from his “ventures” (adventures) outside. Lately he’s been loving Snoopy (“Swoopy!”) again, so we may have him be Snoopy again this Halloween. Since he hasn’t grown much in the past year, the costume might still fit him!

That’s it from us this month… The next monthly update will be here before I even know it, in just a couple of weeks! Time really does FLY these days.
