Hello, everyone! My name is Maddy Hague. I’m the blogger behind Somewhere Splendid, a nesting blog covering home decor, entertaining, cooking, and crafts. By day, my husband Devon and I are both full time graphic designers and photo art directors. I’m originally from New York, but met my husband at design school in Rhode Island; we ultimately settled down in the Twin Cities, Minnesota. We’re currently expecting our first child in mid-March, and obviously, we’re incredibly excited.

As soon as we found out that we were having a girl, I switched into nesting mode and started planning the nursery! The musts: hints of gold, a quirky mid-century modern look to fit in with the rest of the house, and lots of custom designed art by Mama and Papa (I’ve pulled some inspiration art I like for the purpose of this board). We were deciding between two options: this Playful and Patterned Nursery, and the Girlie Graphic Nursery I’ll be sharing next week.

Playful and Patterned is full of fun, poppy patterns that are set against bright white as a “neutral zone”. It also pulls in some natural wood tones since our nursery room has a cork wall in it (awesome!) and I want it to feel more integrated into the room design rather than just being a statement wall. On the non-cork wall surfaces, we’re adding in a gold patterned wallpaper for a little bit of feminine sophistication that the white and bold color can really pop off of. I even threw in a few owl features because Devon loves owls right now! This is the nursery plan we decided to go with, so I hope you love it as much as we do!
