I’m constantly asking friends for toy suggestions and then when I introduce those toys to Little M, I’m usually disappointed in his lack of interest. However, I’ve found that Little M’s interest in his toys is slowing changing and some of those toys I bought a few months ago (or picked up for free off our local mom’s listserv) are gaining favor. Our toy rotation plan is still working really well to keep his interest piqued each week. This is what 15 month old Little M is loving right now:
1) Tractor: This was a birthday gift that Little M enjoyed a couple months ago, but LOVES now. It plays just a little bit of music — totally not offensive at all.
2) Tunnel: We played with one of these at a birthday party recently and M loved it! I posted an ISO on my local moms’ list and got ours for free.
3) Learning Tower: While not a toy, it’s a total lifesaver. Little M loves to “help” in the kitchen and wants to see my every move. He eats at least one meal a day up here while I clean up in the kitchen. Little M’s grandpa made his, but even at full retail price it’s worth every penny.
4) Lovey: L.E.Phant the lovey is still #1 here.
5) Board Books: Any and all board books are a hit over here right now. This one is at the top of the favorite list with its puppy tail and “pat the nose” fuzzy features inside.
6) Balls: The $1 bin at Target had great bouncy balls in a larger, younger toddler friendly size. We also have a huge ball from the giant ball bin in the Target toy section, several small soccer balls and a few balls that I sewed. We rotate balls through weekly, but no matter which ball is on rotation, it’s always the highlight of the week.
7) Airplane: Another gift from Mamie! This safari airplane propels on its own with no batteries, makes a whirring noise and has spinning propellers. A definite favorite.
8) Play Kitchen: Little M loves his Ikea play kitchen we gave him for Christmas. We find that he’s most interested in it when we rotate the play food. Ours is stacked with actual food containers before they go to the recycling bin. We leave them out for a week then toss them – always something new to play with.
9) Pounding Pegs: Mamie gave this toy to Little M for Christmas. It’s incredibly simple, but oh so engaging.
10) Walker: We have this one from Radio Flyer, but it’s difficult to turn. At a friend’s house recently Little M pushed a lightweight plastic Fisher Price version for hours. I had a shopping cart as a toddler — perhaps I’m grooming my boy to love shopping too!
What toys are you little ones loving these days?

This is a great list! We love our Learning Tower as well (thanks, CraigsList!). Such a life-saver when all they want to do is help in the kitchen.
I’ve been meaning to try out your toy rotation plan; this is a good reminder to get back to that! Thanks for sharing.

I have to ask you about that puppy book, since you posted a picture of it and everything. I think it’s cute…until you get to the end. What do bunnies have to do with anything????
At 9 months old, she is just starting to use the stroller walker that I bought for her. I see that being used in the future, too to push her dolls in. She still loves her stacking cups and loves her music/play table that she can stand next to and shuffle around.

I love this!! Gives me a little glimpse into the future.
J is recently into cars/trucks and things that have wheels – he loves to push them across the floor and say “droom droom” (trying to copy us saying vroom haha!).
I was debating one of those tunnels – I really want one for J! I also want a learning tower, maybe I’ll scout craiglist for one! AND the ikea kitchen is on our list to get soon! We even have a place for it. I LOVE the idea of using/recycling your kitchen items so that his food and containers are new every week. What a wonderful idea!

We have something similar to No. 1 (a hit), a play kitchen (also a hit), and No. 9 as well. He could care less about No. 9, though. Sigh. However, he’s firmly ensconced in a choo-choo obsession stage, so non-train things aren’t seeing a lot of play right now.

@mediagirl: I know, right?!? I always add in a bit about if I were a puppy I’d be tripping on LSD and be playing with the bunnies… I should probably cut that out before he starts to mimic my words though. Ha
@Mrs. Pen: M loves his cars too! And he says vroom vroom. Where do they learn these things?!?

the pounding pegs look like so much fun!

@Mrs. Stroller: We have a pop up monster trucks book and every time he turns the page and says vroom vroom hahaha. It’s adorable!!

Love the list! Our IKEA tunnel and tractor are hits with my 14 MO. She also LOVES this nest/stacking toy: http://www.amazon.com/i-play-G02082-Stack-Buckets/dp/B000CBSNBU/ref=pd_sim_sbs_t_5. Definitely her favorite right now, and she is getting more into stuffed animals lately as well.

Great list!!
I know you’ve mentioned your love for the learning tower several times but it’s usefulness is finally dawning on me! My LO is always tugging at my leg when I’m in the kitchen because he wants to see what I’m up to. Maybe I can convince DH to make one once we move.
Oh, and we have the Radioflyer push wagon too and absolutely love it! I agree that it’s hard to turn but otherwise, we think it’s awesome!

@Sammyfab: How old is your LO? At about 11 months I was begging Mr. S for one. He kept putting me off because he knew my FIL was making it for Christmas and wanted it to be a surprise. But it was a daily phone call or text where M would be pulling on my leg and whining and I neeeeeeeded it!

@Mrs. Stroller: he’s 13 months. If I’m not cutting food then I’ll just let him sit on the counter and crawl around (I know, worst mother ever) because we have a lot of counter space…but then he starts tossing the spice rack, turning the faucet on/off and wreaking general havoc that I don’t really get anything done. Your FIL used an Ana White plan, right? I think I’ll go search for it now and send it to DH :).

I hear ya in the wagon being tough to turn. Charlie loved the wagon but not the plastic walkers… Olive of course is the opposite! Her favorite walker right now is actually a Melissa and Doug shopping cart!
blogger / nectarine / 2010 posts
@Mrs. Bee: A girl after my own heart! My nana gave me a shopping cart when I was wee and apparently I would say “thank you for the shopping cart” every time she called!

charlie actually learned how to walk with this shopping cart:

it was at a local playspace though so i didn’t buy one.

Super cute, my child is due in June 2013 and I just can’t wait to get to this toy stage. I’m bookmarking this for reference later!
