It’s amazing how many items I purchased before Little Tea Cup came into the world. I must have looked at over 100 blogger registries for all the “best” and “must have” items. Thinking back on it now, I really am amazed at just how few things you actually use and need for a newborn. That being said, there were a few products that I am really glad we had those first few weeks.
1. Lifefactory 4 oz bottles – I am so happy that I chose these bottles for our little one. I used them right from the beginning with Little Tea Cup and we never had any issues with gas. They are a little heavier then your average bottle because they are made of glass, but they are very tough and even though we have dropped them numerous times, they have not broken. I love that they have different nipple options (and even a sippy cup lid option) so you are not buying new bottles every few months.
2. Philips AVENT Soothie Pacifiers – These are very popular with most of the mom bloggers out there and I am no different. They are round and seem to fit better in newborn mouths. I also like that you are able to keep a finger in the back of them to help the baby keep it in their mouth.
3. Summer Infant Swaddleme – We swaddled Little Tea Cup from the very beginning and she began escaping right from the beginning. Eventually reswaddling her numerous times was keeping us all up at night, literally. These little lightweight wraps kept her safe and secure and helped lengthen her sleep times.
4. Philips AVENT Bottle Warmer – I know this is on many people’s don’t buy it list, but I find it very handy for heating up bottles quickly and evenly. We do not have a microwave so this was a great alternative for us.
5. Philips AVENT Manual Breast Pump – I tried various electric pumps and for some reason none of them worked as well as this little manual one for me. It is easy to take apart and clean, and uses Avent bottles which are inexpensive and great for storage.
6. bumGenius Freetimes – snaps – I wrote an entire post about cloth diapering here, but I will still say that these are perhaps the best purchase I made for our little one!
7. Aden and Adais Swaddle Blankets – Although I did not use these for swaddling, I did and still use them for everything else. They are lightweight, large sized and are very handy for a play mat, a car seat cover, a blanket for over the stroller etc.
8. Baby Bjorn BabyCarrier – I loved using a carrier in the early days for taking Little Tea Cup out for some fresh air. I found this carrier fit my body well and kept Little Tea Cup safe and comfortable without hurting my back. I do suggest that to find the kind of carrier that is best for you, you need to go and try them on!

I second the BG Freetimes with snaps. We started out with a handful of other diapers and ended up selling them all in order to buy more BGs. Best cloth diaper out there in my opinion!

Good tips! We are addicted to soothie pacifiers and love our Wubbanub, especially for car trips!

I was surprised by how little we really needed and how much stuff we ended up returning. For the better, I guess, since we had plenty of money left from stuff we didn’t need and returned to buy TWO of our car seats!
