Yup, my kid is 18 months old and I still lug around my diaper bag. It’s big, it’s fashionable, it’s waterpoof and I honestly love it more than my old handbag… which means the diaper bag sticks around. It’s much more lightweight than it was when Chloe was six months old, but it still serves its purpose. And, now that Chloe is older and we can go out on longer day trips, I still fill it to the max. So, what’s in my diaper bag?
1. Toys & books I always pack a few hardcover books and a favorite toy in my diaper bag before we leave the house.
2. A change of clothes (or two or three…) – Chloe likes to play, and she plays hard! Depending on how long we will be gone, or where we are going, I pack a few outfits and maybe even a pair of pajamas with me.
3. Sunscreen – Now that it’s summer time, I make sure to bring along a travel size tube of sunscreen with me wherever we go. You never know where we may end up, like an impromptu trip to the park, and it’s important to have her sensitive skin protected!
4. Diapers and wipes – Chloe is not potty trained yet, so we pack diapers, of course! I take 12 with me at all times. It seems like a pretty good number to have on hand, right? Wipes, of course, accompany me in a travel size case.
5. Bottled Water – I’m always drinking water, and always carry a bottle with me no matter where we go. I carried one in my purse before we had a baby, and now I carry one in my diaper bag. It really is an old habit, but it’s come in handy a few times since having Chloe when we’ve been stuck in traffic a few times and she’s run out of water in her sippy cup. Now I make sure to have two bottles of chilled water in my diaper bag at all times– one for her, and one for me!
6. A cosmetic case – I keep a small cosmetic case in my diaper bag that holds my lip gloss, Tide to go pen, lotions, inhaler, and pens. If I’m sick, I’ll throw cold medicine, ibuprofen or prescription medicine in this bag.
7. Thermometer – Chloe is still prone to fevers that come out of nowhere, so I still don’t leave the house without a thermometer, Vaseline and infant Motrin.
8. Sippy Cups – I wouldn’t dare leave without one!
9. Diaper Cream
10. Snacks and Snack Cup – I always have a handful of snacks in my bag, like ritz crackers, cheerios, Squeezies, raisins, or goldfish. Our snack catcher holds the perfect amount of snacks for Chloe and keeps my bag mess-free.
I also always have:
– Pen & paper
– Tissues
– My wallet
– iPhone
-Immunization Records
How old is your LO? Do you still carry a diaper bag?

Good tips! I can’t envision the day when I’ll no longer need a diaper bag.

I have a 21 month old and still carry it! I keep trying to find ways to lighten the load but I like to be prepared for anything.

My daughter is 20 months old and I just switched to a small kids’ backpack in the last month. Um, I gasped at your 12 diapers…I consider a full load to be 4 or 5, and sometimes I may just grab one! On a normal outing of an hour or so, I make sure to have a few diapers, wipes, small changing pad, sippy cup, snack, paci, a book or two and small toy, sunscreen stick and diaper cream. If we’re out during meal time, I’ll pack her lunch bag with some food I know she’ll eat, a bib, and make sure the phil&ted’s lobster chair is in the car.

I learned a lot, thanks. What Im still looking for is to know what kind of healthy natural snacks moms advise to pack in the diaper bag. (I have not only lost a lot of weight on a sensible-eating-plan at my nutritionists office, but all my blood results came back excellent first time in my life. Ive been learning ever since about processed foods and their bad influence on the body). I dont suppose anyone of the readers can recommend a blog on that, I ve been googling but nothing much comes up. My thought is to pack cubed cheese (not the processed american), saltines with no salt on them, cubec cucumber and apples? Any other ideas? Goldfish are so bad for the tots and anyone really. Ofc not as bad as chips, but bad nonetheless.
